How to Like Your Work

Sep 6, 2026    Paul Gearhardt

The sermon “How to Like Your Work” challenges us to change our perspective on work. Instead of seeing work as a necessary evil or something merely to endure, Christians should see their work as “holy ground”—an opportunity to glorify God and serve others.

The sermon identifies three reasons people often endure rather than enjoy their work: wrong motivations, unrealistic expectations, and a confused purpose. Our work should not be driven primarily by money, status, or convenience, but by recognizing the gifts God has given us and using them for His glory.

Paul's teaching in Colossians 3:23 becomes the central challenge: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” We honor God through our work by approaching it with excellence and enthusiasm, while looking for ways to bless and serve the people around us.

Bottom line: Your workplace isn't separate from your spiritual life. Jesus wants to be Lord of your work, your school, and every part of your life. When we work for Him rather than merely for a paycheck or a boss, ordinary work becomes an opportunity to glorify God and minister to others.
