This week we begin our new series, American Idols, by looking at how even good things can become ultimate things in our lives. In Luke 14:25–27, Jesus gives a challenging call to love Him above everyone else—even family. While God values family, we must be careful not to place family before Him. When family becomes an idol, we place unhealthy expectations on others and look to people for the joy and security only God can provide. The best way to truly love our families is to love Jesus first and allow Him to shape our hearts and homes.
