Approval
This sermon, “Approval” from the American Idols series, explores how the desire for human approval can become an idol that competes with devotion to God. Using John 12:42–43, the message highlights religious leaders who believed in Jesus but stayed silent because they feared losing the approval of others. The sermon explains that while affirmation itself is not wrong, craving approval more than God’s acceptance leads to insecurity, people-pleasing, and spiritual compromise. Examples from King Saul, social media culture, and the Apostle Paul show how approval addiction shapes behavior and identity. Paul’s transformation after encountering Jesus demonstrates that true freedom comes when we value Christ above reputation, praise, or public opinion. The sermon concludes by reminding believers that they are fully accepted in Christ and should seek God’s approval above all else.
