Wholehearted
In "Wholehearted (Caleb)" from Joshua 14:1–15, we highlight Caleb as a "dark horse" of Scripture—a faithful man who spent decades trusting God before his defining moment arrived. Caleb remained steadfast for 45 years, from the time he believed God's promise as one of the twelve spies until he finally received his inheritance at age 85.
The sermon centers on three lessons from Caleb's life:
Wholehearted faith trusts God's promises even when obedience is costly.
Wholehearted faith trusts God's timing when fulfillment is delayed.
Wholehearted faith pursues God's purposes even when comfort would be easier.
Rather than seeking an easy retirement, Caleb asked for the mountain still occupied by giants, demonstrating that faith never retires from trusting God. The sermon concludes by emphasizing that the story is ultimately not about Caleb's determination but about God's faithfulness. Caleb points to Jesus, who perfectly obeyed the Father and secured an eternal inheritance for all who trust in Him. Believers are challenged to trust God wholeheartedly in obedience, waiting, and service, and to ask what "mountain" God is calling them to climb.
